Hi, it's me Dr Mabin

Welcome to my world of psychology, a place where insight and compassion converge. As I embarked on my journey as a psychologist, I recognised a distinct chasm between the intricate lexicon of our field and the everyday language people use to navigate their lives. This divide can often feel intimidating, leaving individuals isolated and disheartened in their quest for understanding and assistance.

In my pursuit of unraveling the enigmas of the human psyche, I realised the necessity to transcend the boundaries of traditional thinking. That's where the power of analogies comes into play. Analogies are my chosen instrument, a bridge between the complexities of the mind and the broader audience yearning for clarity. I firmly believe that everyone should have access to resources that promote mental health, and analogies serve as a vessel for this purpose.

Yet, my mission extends beyond accessibility; it's about forging genuine connections. Analogies offer not just comprehension but a profound sense of recognition, even in the most vulnerable of moments. They cocoon individuals in a cocoon of comfort and familiarity, paving the way for them to embark on their therapeutic journey.

As for my ventures into podcasting and photography, they unveil unique portals to the human experience. These mediums empower us to narrate stories and share perspectives that words alone may not capture.

I firmly subscribe to the belief that art possesses the transformative ability to heal and elevate us, and I am determined to interweave this essence into my role as a psychologist.

Recognising that the therapeutic journey can be arduous, I have crafted a distinctive approach that harnesses creativity and artistic expression. This approach empowers my clients to articulate their struggles through art, symbols, and imagery, complementing the conventional therapeutic discourse. Not only does this help individuals delve into their innermost challenges, but it also aids in organising their thoughts and feelings, enhancing communication with loved ones.

This website is my endeavour to furnish a sanctuary where individuals can unearth the resources and support required to enrich their mental health. I wholeheartedly trust in the latent potential within each individual to lead a content, fulfilled life, and I am committed to playing my role in bringing that vision to life.

My specialties

I earned my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology in the United Kingdom, and I've been a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) since 2018. My professional journey has been shaped by my diverse experiences and extensive training.

Since 2018, I have had the privilege of serving within the NHS, currently holding the position of Lead/Principal Psychologist. My work in the NHS has been marked by a commitment to innovation and the development of evidence-based treatments.

I specialise in various areas, with a focus on personality disorders, affective disorders, trauma, and paediatric neurodevelopmental disorders. One of my notable achievements within the NHS has been my pivotal role in the development of the Oxford model of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders. Additionally, I secured funding to create a digital treatment pathway tailored to children and young people dealing with emotion regulation challenges, making mental health support more accessible and responsive to their unique needs.

My therapeutic approach combines Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and I have received extensive post-qualification training in evidence-based treatments, including Mentalisation-Based Treatment (MBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), Focal Psychodynamic Therapy for Eating Disorders (FPT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).

In my practice, I offer comprehensive diagnostic services for a range of conditions, including ADHD, eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, affective disorders, mood disorders, and attachment disorders. Drawing from my extensive knowledge and experience within the NHS, I also extend consultation services to individuals and families, providing valuable recommendations for specialist assessments and treatments.

I believe in making the world of psychology approachable, compassionate, and deeply supportive. Each individual holds the potential for transformation and well-being, and my goal is to provide the guidance and services that help unlock that potential.

I work collaboratively with individuals to address the emotional and behavioural aspects of their eating disorders, fostering healthier relationships with food and body image. By offering support to both clients and their families and working alongside the client's GP for medical monitoring, I aim to guide individuals towards recovery, improved health, and a more positive relationship with food and self.

Emotion Regulation Therapy for Children with ASD

I deliver highly specialised therapy for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), focusing on the crucial area of emotion regulation. Within my practice, I implement tailored interventions that are specifically designed to support children with ASD in their journey towards developing essential emotion regulation skills.

Collaboration is key in my approach. I work closely with children and their parents, recognising that effective support extends beyond individual therapy sessions. Together, we explore and address the unique emotional needs of each child, working to better understand, express, and ultimately manage their emotions. By creating a safe and nurturing environment, I provide the necessary guidance to help these children build effective strategies that allow them to navigate their emotional world with greater ease and confidence.

The ultimate aim of my work is to enhance the overall well-being of children with ASD. These improved emotion regulation skills not only contribute to a higher quality of life but also foster more positive and successful social interactions, enabling these children to thrive and achieve their fullest potential.

Trauma

My expertise also lies in trauma-informed therapy, where I provide compassionate and dedicated support to individuals who have experienced trauma. I am committed to assisting my clients in their journey towards healing and recovery.

Within my practice, I rely on evidence-based interventions to guide clients through the process of processing and healing from traumatic experiences. This approach is designed to empower individuals to regain control over their lives and cultivate resilience in the face of adversity. It is my firm belief that with the right support and therapeutic interventions, individuals can not only overcome the impact of trauma but emerge from it stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to face life's challenges.

Sense of Self

Therapy is a transformative journey towards understanding, accepting, and nurturing one's sense of self. Through introspection, self-exploration, and supportive guidance, therapy helps individuals uncover their core beliefs, values, and identity. This process fosters self-awareness, self-esteem, and a more profound connection with one's true self. Therapy empowers individuals to build a stronger and healthier sense of self, leading to greater self-confidence, authenticity, and a more fulfilling life.

Anxiety

Therapy provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals struggling with anxiety. Through various therapeutic approaches, we work together to identify the root causes of anxiety, develop coping strategies, and foster a sense of control. With evidence-based interventions, therapy equips individuals with the tools and techniques needed to manage anxiety, improve overall well-being, and regain a sense of peace and balance in their lives.

Depression

Therapy offers a path to healing and recovery for individuals experiencing depression. By providing a compassionate and non-judgmental space, therapy helps individuals explore the underlying causes of their depression, develop effective coping strategies, and work towards a brighter future. Evidence-based therapeutic interventions empower individuals to regain hope, improve mood, and find a renewed sense of purpose and joy in their lives.
